Canadians a point of access to a wide range of government services and programs either in person, by phone, by Internet or by mail;</Text></Provision><Provision lims:inforce-start-date="2015-06-18" lims:fid="348044" lims:id="348044" format-ref="indent-0-0" list-item="no" language-align="no"><Text>And whereas it is desirable to improve services to Canadians by providing those Canadians who have recently lost a loved one with a point of contact for the Government of Canada in respect of matters relating to the death of that person that pertain to the use of that person’s social insurance number;</Text></Provision></Preamble><Enacts lims:inforce-start-date="2015-06-18" lims:fid="348045" lims:id="348045"><Provision lims:inforce-start-date="2015-06-18" lims:fid="348046" lims:id="348046" format-ref="indent-0-0" language-align="yes" list-item="no"><Text>Now, therefore, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as lims:inforce-start-date="2015-06-18" lims:fid="348050" lims:id="348050">Short title</MarginalNote><Label>1</Label><Text>This Act may be cited as the <XRefExternal reference-type="act" link="M-0.23">Main Point of Contact with the Government of Canada in case of Death Act</XRefExternal>.</Text></Section><Heading lims:inforce-start-date="2015-06-18" lims:fid="348051" lims:id="348051" level="1"><TitleText>Mandate</TitleText></Heading><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2015-06-18" lims:lastAmendedDate="2015-06-18" lims:fid="348052" lims:id="348052"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2015-06-18" lims:fid="348053" lims:id="348053">Main point of contact</MarginalNote><Label>2</Label><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2015-06-18" lims:fid="348054" lims:id="348054"><Label>(1)</Label><Text>The Minister of Employment and Social Development must implement measures necessary to establish the Department of Employment and Social Development as the main point of contact with the Government of Canada in respect of matters relating to the death of a Canadian citizen or resident that pertain to the use of that person’s social insurance number, so that no person is required to communicate directly with all persons to whom information about that deceased citizen or resident may be made available under subsection 28.2(5) or subsection 35(1) of the <XRefExternal reference-type="act" link="H-5.7">Department of Employment and Social Development Act</XRefExternal>.</Text></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2015-06-18" lims:fid="348055" lims:id="348055"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2015-06-18" lims:fid="348056" lims:id="348056">Information about deceased citizen or resident — Commission</MarginalNote><Label>(2)</Label><Text>On receiving notification of the death of a Canadian citizen or resident, the Canada Employment Insurance Commission must, if it may make information relating to that deceased citizen or resident available to any persons under subsection 28.2(5) of the <XRefExternal reference-type="act" link="H-5.7">Department of Employment and Social Development Act</XRefExternal>, do so, subject to the conditions that would apply if the Commission were to make that information available under that subsection.</Text></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2015-06-18" lims:fid="348057" lims:id="348057"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2015-06-18" lims:fid="348058" lims:id="348058">Information about deceased citizen or resident — Minister</MarginalNote><Label>(3)</Label><Text>On receiving notification of the death of a Canadian citizen or resident, the Minister of Employment and Social Development must, if the Minister may make information relating to the deceased citizen or resident that pertains to the use of their social insurance number available to a minister or public officer of a prescribed federal institution, under subsection 35(1) of the <XRefExternal reference-type="act" link="H-5.7">Department of Employment and Social Development Act</XRefExternal>, do so, subject to the conditions referred to in that subsection.</Text></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2015-06-18" lims:fid="348059" lims:id="348059"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2015-06-18" lims:fid="348060" lims:id="348060">Deeming provision</MarginalNote><Label>(4)</Label><Text>For the purpose of subsections 28.2(6) or 35(2) of the <XRefExternal reference-type="act" link="H-5.7">Department of Employment and Social Development Act</XRefExternal>, the information made available to any person under subsection (2) or (3), is deemed to have been obtained, respectively, under subsection 28.2(5) or 35(1) of that Act.</Text></Subsection></Section><Heading lims:inforce-start-date="2015-06-18" lims:fid="348061" lims:id="348061" level="1"><TitleText>Regulations</TitleText></Heading><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2015-06-18" lims:lastAmendedDate="2015-06-18" lims:fid="348062" lims:id="348062"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2015-06-18" lims:fid="348063" lims:id="348063">Regulations</MarginalNote><Label>3</Label><Text>The Governor in Council may make regulations for carrying out the purposes and provisions of this Act.</Text></Section><Heading lims:inforce-start-date="2015-06-18" lims:fid="348064" lims:id="348064" level="1"><TitleText>Annual Report</TitleText></Heading><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2015-06-18" lims:lastAmendedDate="2015-06-18" lims:fid="348065" lims:id="348065"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2015-06-18" lims:fid="348066" lims:id="348066">Annual report</MarginalNote><Label>4</Label><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2015-06-18" lims:fid="348067" lims:id="348067"><Label>(1)</Label><Text>The Minister of Employment and Social Development must, after the end of every fiscal year, report on the implementation of the measures referred to in section 2 during that fiscal year.</Text></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2015-06-18" lims:fid="348068" lims:id="348068"><MarginalNote lims:inforce-start-date="2015-06-18" lims:fid="348069" lims:id="348069">Tabling in Parliament</MarginalNote><Label>(2)</Label><Text>The Minister must cause the information relating to the implementation of the measures to be laid before each House of Parliament during the fiscal year after the fiscal year to which the information
